Northern Ireland's only 3-day festival of art and music is making its first official lineup announcement to the delight of the festival's committed and growing fan base, who mark the festival as a highlight in the summer festival calendar in Northern Ireland. Sunflowerfest: A Parallel Universe will run from 28th
July 2017 on Tubby's Farm, Hillsborough.
Irish pop-culture agitators Rubberbandits
are bringing their unmistakable, unmissable live show to Sunflowerfest. Storytelling with an undeniably catchy sound, the Irish comedy-rap duo is taking to the Main Stage alongside Derry-born singer-songwriter Ryan Vail
, bringing his new live AV show - recently tried-and-tested at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and hugely successful, we know you're going to love it.
Other additions to the bill include Electric Swing Circus
, Too Many T's
, Beans on Toast
, Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer
, new Dublin noisemakers Farah Elle
and Glasgow pop-rockers Single By Sunday
. Not forgetting local favourites Le Galaxie
, King Kong Company
will be bringing their explosive sound back on-stage.
When you make it through interdimensional customs to the ElectroMoot don't miss a headline set from OR:LA
. Fans of dance and electronic can expect JIKA JIKA!
at the controls with many more to be announced. Of course, we're happy to say our famous Silent Disco is making its return for another late-night event.
We're teaming up with Ireland's first burrito bar Boojum
to bring our Sunflowerfest family a healthy supply of award-winning food throughout the weekend. We can't give it all away yet
, but expect a big upgrade on your standard food village - one to match the cult-status of Boojum's legendary burritos.
Of course, we can't expect to take you on a journey through space and time without guaranteeing a smooth landing. So, we've partnered with Yippee Tents to provide a luxury alternative to traditional camping with our new Glamping Village this year. Along with our Dutch friends at KarTent we're also providing an eco-friendly, reliable and sustainable camping option in the form of 100% recyclable, pre-pitched cardboard tents. Yes, you read that right - cardboard tents! They fit two people, measure at a comfy 2.2 x 1.5 metres and weigh a sturdy sixteen kilograms (so you won't have to worry about your accommodation blowing away - we've all been there).
Excited yet? We're gonna get schwifty.
And don't forget, Sunflowerfest is good for you.
An emphasis on 'world-building'
Previous years of the hugely successful festival have seen the enchanting natural beauty of Tubby's Farm transformed into a steampunk haven and an ancient Viking settlement, among other unique themes. This year's theme of A Parallel Universe places a focus on futurism. Organisers and designers are collaborating to create a festival experience that will guide the Sunflowerfest-faithful through space and time, a unique combination of art and science. Speaking on what can be expected at this year's festival, Michael Magowan festival organiser described how their world-building ambitions are 'rooted' in positive community engagement and environmental sustainability. "Since 2002, over 7000 native trees including beech, birch, ash, alder, willow, hazel, and oak have been planted on-site," said Michael. "The festival's electronic music venue 'The Moot' and the festivals picturesque Pond Stage were crafted 5-years ago from renewable pine logs.
"We strive to foster a sense of community and connection both during the festival and at Tubby's Farm generally. While visiting the festival, people from all walks of life can enjoy yoga, meditation, interactive and educational workshops as well as inspirational talks from individuals who share creative and eco-friendly interests. We're proud to share our home in the countryside - a collective, beautiful, piece of heaven on earth. We are just the caretakers for the generations to come.
Sunflowerfest is built on principles of permaculture and sustainability, and each year an army of volunteers is assembled to ensure that the farm is prepared for the thousands of expected guests as well as looking after the land during the festival weekend.
Tickets for Sunflowerfest start at just £74.95 (includes 2 children, aged 15 and under) and £64.95 for students - now available online at www.sunflowerfest.co.uk
