‘Learn To’ Workshops at Larchfield Estate

As part of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's Food & Drink events calendar for 2019, we are delighted to host a series of 'Learn To' Workshops in the beautiful surroundings of Larchfield Estate on Saturday 12th October 2019 between 9am and 1pm. There will be 5 different workshops held during the day that are food and drink focused or which complement the programme. All workshops are ticketed and must be booked beforehand.

👩‍🍳Bread & Jam Making with Brambleberry Jams

Are you curious about how to make jam with a magical touch? And how about finding out just how easy it is to make traditional potato bread like a pro?

Join Alice of Brambleberry Jams for a 2 hour Bread & Jam Making workshop in the kitchen of The Barn at Larchfield Estate. This will be a close-up, casual, interactive workshop with time for lots of questions and tastings of course! The workshop starts at 10.00am and finishes at 12 noon.

As well as being a talented jam-maker, you'll be using up leftover potatoes for a quick supper or weekend brunch with Alice's potato bread tips.

You'll even get a pot of Brambleberry Jam's small-batch jam to take home.

🥕Introduction to Fermentation with Fermentation Expert The Cultured Club

Are you curious about fermenting foods either as a well-being measure, as a way to preserve foods or simply because you want to check out how to up your super-foodie credentials?

We are delighted that Dearbhla will host one of her Fabulously Funky Ferments workshops in The Barn at Larchfield on our ‘Learn To’ day.

During the 2 hour workshop, Dearbhla will guide and encourage you in exploring the magic of fermentation in this season of abundance.

This will be an interactive workshop and you will get a jar of a seasonal ferment to take home with you.

🐝Introduction to Beekeeping with Dr Ken Baird, Honorary Secretary of the Institute of NI Beekeepers and resident beekeeper at Larchfield Estate

The workshop is ideally suited to those wanting to know more about bees and collecting honey.

During the informal and interactive 2 hour session, Ken will take you through all the basics on beekeeping and how to get started.

There will be lots of props to look at and you will be encouraged to ask questions and generate discussion.

The Beekeeping workshop is being held in the new experience room at Larchfield Estate. This is the first event being held in The Old Piggery, a restored building designed by renowned architect Charles Lanyon (of Queen’s University’s Lanyon Building fame).

🦉 Guided Walk through Larchfield Estate with wildlife enthusiast and photographer, Garry Wilkenson

Take this unique opportunity to accompany wildlife enthusiast and photographer, Garry Wilkenson on a guided walk through areas of Larchfield Estate usually closed to the public. Garry will lead an hour-long walk through the beautiful Larchfield Estate where he will endeavour to reveal some of the wonderful wildlife that inhabits it. During the walk, Garry will explain how the environmental efforts they are undertaking on the estate will bring benefits to existing and new wildlife inhabitants, both enhancing and protecting the ecosystem.

All you will need are:

🥾Walking boots & clothing suitable for the weather on the day

📷Camera (📱smartphones sufficient) 

👀Binoculars if you have them
