About
The Cathedral has links to the American war of Independence, Brigadier General John Nicholson and the siege of Delhi, the 1920 murder of RIC Inspector Oswald Swanzi and the subsequent riots and burning of much of the centre of Lisburn, the Huguenots ( mostly well known is Louis Crommelin), the foundation of the linen industry, the Society of the United Irishmen and the 1798 uprising and Bishop Jeremy Taylor, a former chaplain to Charles 1 and whose writings are still highly regarded. There are also links to the art collector and philanthropist, Sir Richard Wallace. In July 1914 Lilian Metge lead a group of suffragettes in planting a small bomb at the Cathedrals east window.
