Discover heroic tales

Learn the story of legendary Irish poet Ossian in the Walled Garden. You might even find the 3rd Marquess telling tales of Ireland’s mythological heroes and maybe pick up a cúpla focal.

Garden explorers cart 

The cart offers a range of ‘pick & mix’ resources and activities which can be borrowed by families to help them to explore the garden, discover something new and have fun together.

Summer make and take

Get crafty with our artist facilitator and make something wonderful to take home. Please note that numbers are limited, and only children may make the craft. All children must be accompanied.

Hands-on Hillsborough: Object handling

What will you discover at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens this August? Uncover some of the stories, characters and history for yourself by exploring some of the objects in our handling collection.

August bank holiday weekend Georgian ice cream workshop with Lick Gelato

Watch a live demonstration on how to make gelato, then all children can make their own ice cream sundaes – all ingredients provided and children will receive an 'Ice cream sundae making' certificate.
Please note that numbers are limited, and only children may take part.

Kite making workshop

Inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s famous kite experiment, make your own kite to fly in the grounds and then take home. Please note that numbers are limited, and only children may make a kite.
