About
Visit R-Space @ Linen Rooms Lisburn on Sat 14 Sept 2024 from 11am-5pm and meet artist/maker Emma Whitehead on the first floor engaging with the Longest Linen Tablecloth and Runner in NI (currently 12 metres and growing). Feel free to observe and/or participate in the process of adding more linen to the tablecloth (already publicly donated to R-Space) and hear about plans for the Linen Biennale 2025 ( funding dependent).
On the ground floor gallery, join facilitator Anthea McWilliams in the short demo workshop ‘HOLD.FOLD.TOLD.’ to enjoy revisiting and/or learning the art of holding & folding a linen tablecloth (to music); share any stories of your families linen history and discover a little of the history and origin of the linen napkin.
The community table runner will also be on display, contributed to be local community groups and their own designs reflecting their links with linen. See some current linen samples being worked on and maybe even pick up your own pack to take away and complete at your leisure.
Feel free to bring in any treasured linen family pieces to ‘show & tell’. We would love to hear your stories and take some pics. Drop in anytime and visit website (early Sept) for more details.
The future plan is to complete the longest linen tablecloth and community runner, display then on a former bleaching green (location tbc) and invite everyone to a big community outdoor picnic, flax buns will be provided and linen napkins of course. All part of the next Linen Biennale 2025, fingers crossed!
