Christmas in Lisburn Castlereagh

Share the Magic of the Season

This award-winning museum is based in Lisburn’s oldest building, the 17th Century Market House. It brings to life the history of the Irish linen industry and its importance to Northern Ireland.

Visitors young and old can see the heritage of craft skills in the daily demonstrations of hand spinning and hand loom-weaving and admire the treasured collection of damask linen and costumes. As well as the permanent ‘Flax to Fabric: the story of Irish linen’ exhibition, the museum holds exciting artefacts such as linen from the tomb of Tutankhamen!

There's  also a changing programme of temporary exhibitions which includes themes of local history, artworks and textiles. Regular children’s activities include craft workshops and trails. For your souvenirs, the museum shop offers a wide range of craft goods and books at reasonable prices as well as an opportunity to buy the finest quality Irish damask table linen with the exclusive ‘flax flower’ design.
