Castle Gardens Lisburn: Guided Tour
Once the site of a seventeenth century fortified manor house, Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has restored the seventeenth and nineteenth century gardens to reflect something of their formal glory. The Council’s Parks and Amenities department have erected signage to enable visitors to self-guide but anyone wishing to book a tour should contact Lisburn Museum.
Tours taken by Lisburn Museum staff will walk visitors through 400 years of history, outlining Lisburn’s name change from Lisnagarvey and providing some fascinating information on historical figures associated with the Conway, Rawdon and Seymour families, as well as famous landlords such as Sir Richard Wallace and their agents.
Staff will share information about a variety of historical events such as the 1641 rebellion, an infamous duel, and some very eccentric historical behaviour – all part of the rich history of Castle Gardens.
