Food for thought this Father’s Day 2020 across Lisburn Castlereagh.

As with everything in this year of Covid-19 lockdown, we will be celebrating our Dad’s a little bit differently, but no doubt we will all adapt to make the day special and a little bit more unique. As the food and drink purveyors across Lisburn & Castlereagh continue to find new ways to use their expertise and talents with a different service offering, there is something for all tastes and all budgets to give your Dad a surprise this Father’s Day. So whether it’s a family gathering, a meal for two, a box of cakes on the doorstep, or a ticket to a virtual Whiskey Tasting event, there is bound to be something to whet his appetite and show him you appreciate him for just being Dad.

With that in mind, we’ve collated some of the fabulous Food & Drink offerings from across Lisburn Castlereagh. There are small touches or something altogether more decadent to chose from.

With just a couple of weeks until our hospitality and tourism experiences start to open-up and welcomes us all in again, a gift voucher could be the perfect gift. So below are just some of the ideas and menus that have caught our attention for that ‘eating out at home’ experience or a little food or drink decadence that can be delivered to the doorstep which will just brighten up his day. Ashvale Farm Shop - if Dad is the chief cook or grocery shopper in your house, give him the weekend off with Ashvale Farm Shop. Their takeaway café menu means you can have the full weekend’s menu covered with their morning goods, desserts and cakes and ready meals. You can also take care of the fresh produce shop from their farm shop. Check out the menu and pre-order details on their social media.


Café Vic Ryn has continued to produce their legendary scones, cakes and desserts all through lockdown. You can pre-order their decadent desserts or freshly made ready meals for collection or delivery. But if you want to make a weekend of it for your dad, how about starting his Saturday off with a takeaway coffee and one of those Café Vic Ryn scones! All details on their Facebook page.

Chef Jeffers at Home continues with his ‘Virtual Cooking Experience at Home’ with the Dad’s box of all Dad’s boxes, the Ultimate BBQ Box. If its’ a family gathering with different dietary needs, there is a Vegetarian Box to choose from too - you could even try one of each. Crumbs Vegan Bakery - Does Dad have a sweet tooth? You can’t go wrong with a sweet treat from Crumbs Vegan Bakery. Check out what is on offer this week from their Shopify site for local delivery. 


Hara Hillsborough - Hara at Home has been a sell-out every weekend since they started doing their ‘Hara at Home’ menus a few weeks ago, so don’t hang around! Check out their Father’s Day menu on their Facebook or Instagram @HaraHillsborough but there are also menus for Friday and Saturday nights too if that suits better. Hilden
The Tap Room @ Hilden Brewery led the way for micro-breweries in Ireland and are now Ireland’s oldest craft brewery, proudly based in Lisburn. If your Dad is fond of local craft beers, you can’t go wrong with a selection of Hilden Brewery beers and support a local business at the same time. Hilden Brewery bottled beers can be found in all good local stockists. 


Hinch Distillery - While we wait with bated breath for Lisburn Castlereagh’s new Distillery Visitor Experience to open its doors, you can still get a flavour of what lies ahead. Hinch Distillery are taking part in the Belfast Whiskey Week with a Virtual Whiskey Tasting event on 31st July. Why not give your Dad something to look forward to with a ticket? You could go one better and enter their current Facebook competition for a chance to win a bottle of Hinch 10 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish Irish Whiskey and branded Tuath glass. PigOut is the new kid on the block from Lisburn’s AJ Mulholland Butchers. This cool street food van is rocking up to the Pet Warehouse car park on Harry’s Road, Hillsborough on Saturday evening from 6pm-9pm, so why not start Father’s Day early with a Saturday evening PigOut? The Fat Gherkin - With this lovely weather, it would be shame to not try (and treat Dad of course with the weekend that’s in it) the all-new and just launched ‘The Fat Gherkin’ soft service ice cream! Check out their Instagram page for the scoop. Open Wednesday – Saturday for takeaway of their legendary coffee and freshly made cakes and sarnies.


The Square Pops Up will be out again in their retro-style trailer on Saturday evening in Lisburn but don’t delay in booking your collection slot. Pre-booking essential and it sells out fast! A real Saturday night treat for Dad – I’m sure he won’t mind the Father’s Day spoiling starting early. Menu and order details on social media.


The Parson’s Nose has been rocking it since the early days of lockdown with their weekend takeaway menu. In recent weeks, as well as their woodfired pizzas, they have added The Parson’s Nose gastropub favourites to their takeaway menu on a Friday or Saturday evening and Sunday’s can be Sunday’s again with their much-loved Sunday lunch available. What Dad doesn’t love a good Sunday gastropub lunch? Order via their website.


The Plough Inn gastropub in Hillsborough has menus for Friday or Saturday evening and from this weekend for Sunday lunch! Sunday lunch is £22 per head and there is a Kids Corner menu too. They also have teamed up with local brewery, Farmageddon, with a complimentary bottle of IPA to all Father’s with their Sunday lunch. The StillHouse Moira can’t wait to open its doors to welcome you all back to their gastropub and gin school in the heart of Moira village.
