About
The inspiration for Beacon of Light comes from a series of photographs taken by the artist in the village of Royal Hillsborough at night. Walking just over three miles the artist travelled through the streets using long exposure cameras to capture and create a series of light journeys and drawings. The lines these light journeys informed were then used to create the shape of the flame-like sculpture. Weaving together the different repetitive lines the artist formed one sculptural cartography artwork. The theme of Hope & Aspiration is symbolised by the artwork rising and reaching into the sky acting as a beacon and becoming more alive at night with the changing natural light and colours.
THE ARTIST : Kevin Killen studied at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design University College specialising in 3D design and fine art before moving to Dallas Texas to study neon glass skills. Now based in Northern Ireland he is fascinated in exploring his visual language using the medium of light and movement while investigating issues of boundaries and behavioural patterns.
